BAE Systems is seeking an Environmental Specialist to administer the environmental program in Anniston, Alabama. The successful candidate will be based at the Forge Site and spend most of the time at that location but will also be expected to provide support and perform routine inspections at two other BAE sites located in Anniston. The Environmental Specialist will develop, implement and oversee policies, plans, and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations. The Environmental Specialist will also ensure conformance with the ISO 14001 Registration per the existing environmental management system with responsibilities including developing and implementing environmental objectives, ensuring the environmental program aligns with business objectives and working with senior leadership to develop strategies for continuous improvement.
Specifically, the candidates needs to be familiar with air permitting and compliance (including NESHAP), storm water permitting and compliance, EPCRA requirements and reporting, SPCC requirements, DOT requirements as they apply to hazardous materials/wastes, nonhazardous, universal and hazardous waste management, basic TSCA requirements, monitoring and remediation of subsurface contamination and basic spill response methodology. The candidate should have experience interpreting regulations, completing air permit applications, writing and revising plans (contingency, SPCC and storm water), submitting regulatory reports, developing training plans and performing the training, performing regulatory inspections, proper sampling techniques and ISO 14001 requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected, as necessary, to develop new strategies and plans to meet the changing landscape of environmental compliance and conformance and develop and revise company policies in order to ensure continued compliance and conformance as well as promoting continuous improvement. The successful candidate will also be expected to either have Hazwoper Training to the Technician Level or understand they will be expected to take that training within the first year of employment. The position will report to the Safety, Health and Environmental Manager.
