What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? 

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.


GS-07 - $41,365 (Step 01) to $53,733 (Step 10);
GS-09 - $50,598 (Step 01) to $65,778 (Step 10);
GS-11 - $61,218 (Step 01) to $79,586 (Step 10);

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

As a Hydrologist within the Central Midwest Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: 

  • Manage hydraulic and hydrologic models inputs and results.
  • Manage, visualize, and analyze hydrologic and climate data.
  • Prepare model simulations for analysis.
  • Draft reports and author data products including data releasees and web pages. Communicate modeling results.
  • Work with staff on data retrieval and interpretation. QA/QC and routine analysis.
  • Operate government vehicle as an incidental driver.

Physical Demands:

The posiition requires moderate periods of standing and sitting while in the office. While in the field, considerable walking, lifting, bending, climbing, and stream wading is necessary to collect data.

Work Environment:

Office conditions are normal; field conditions may include extreme heat or cold, rain or snow, and hazardous conditions such as ice or flooding.

Travel Required

25% or less - Overnight travel of up to 5 nights per month may be required.
