The Director, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, will be responsible for helping lead key programs and initiatives to continue advancing Visa’s performance and global recognition as a responsible and sustainable company. In conjunction with the Vice President, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Philanthropy, the role’s portfolio will include Visa’s environmental sustainability initiatives, human rights program and other emerging areas of responsible business to meet and exceed stakeholder expectations. The role also supports the management of corporate responsibility and sustainability, including evolving the responsibility strategy and framework and operating internal governance and coordination bodies, including the Corporate Responsibility Leadership Council and its associated working groups. The Director also will help represent the company in external corporate responsibility and sustainability organizations, initiatives, collaborations and events. As a member of the broader Social Impact team, this position reports to the Vice President, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Philanthropy and will be based at Visa’s offices in Foster City, California.

Specific responsibilities include:

•    Drive and grow Visa’s environmental sustainability program, including annual global audit, CDP and other reporting submissions, renewable energy plans, employee engagement and additional opportunities

•    Implement and manage Visa’s human rights program, including the company’s human rights commitments and due diligence activities (training, monitoring, reporting, etc.)

•    Evolve Visa’s corporate responsibility and sustainability approach and framework, including periodic materiality assessment processes

•    Understand, communicate and strategize for trends and developments in expectations for corporate responsibility and sustainability among key stakeholders (clients, shareholders, employees, governments, consumers, etc.)

•    Support Visa’s engagement with these key stakeholders on responsibility and sustainability topics

•    Prioritize and engage strategically with external stakeholders, including organizations, initiatives, partners and events

•    Serve as resource for internal partners for formal ESG reporting and broader communications needs and opportunities

•    Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal partners / functions that contribute to responsibility and sustainability to drive toward coalitions, consensus and action

•    Manage agency resources (as available) to support programs and initiatives

•    Expand and manage measurement activities focused on responsibility and sustainability


•    A passion for using the tools of business to achieve business and societal objectives
•    Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) degree from top-tier institutions required
•    A minimum of 8-12 years of progressively responsible experience in similar roles; experience implementing similar programs in a corporate environment strongly preferred
•    Experience managing and advancing broad-based corporate environmental sustainability programs and initiatives
•    Experience leading human rights programs in a corporate environment, including the principles and implications of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
•    Involvement in developing and managing responsibility and sustainability strategies, including the materiality assessment process
•    Understanding of the evolving expectations for responsibility and sustainability among various stakeholders (e.g., shareholders, ESG ratings firms, governments, non-governmental organizations, etc.)
•    Understanding of leading corporate responsibility standards and frameworks and experience conducting gap analyses and action plans
•    Exceptional ability to develop positive relationships and lead through influence with internal partners, build consensus and prioritize action and results
•    Outstanding communicator with excellent presentation and strong written and oral communications skills
•    Professional presence to be a trusted representative of the company with external stakeholders
•    Exceptional project management skills and the ability to structure and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and drive to completion
•    Demonstrated ability to think strategically 
•    Ability to work within a complex and often ambiguous environment, to drive rigorous, fact-based recommendations to senior management, other executive, functional, or geographic management 
•    Team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic and flexible
•    Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a team-based environment that is fast-paced and rapidly changing
•    Global or multi-national corporate experience is strongly preferred
