Jones Edmunds, one of ENR's top 500 design firms has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Engineer Intern in our Gainesville Office. The Engineer will apply broad civil and environmental engineering knowledge of principles and practices in the field of solid waste management. The position may require multitasking and working on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects including facility design, permitting, compliance, and construction. The Engineer Intern must have knowledge of environmental, geotechnical, and/or stormwater engineering principles and practices of related fields and ability to serve on multi-disciplinary teams. This position exercises good and independent judgment in selecting and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to work projects and tasks. The Engineer Intern must have the ability to devise solutions to new and complex problems. The Engineer Intern will work on a design team on various solid waste design projects including landfill bottom liner, landfill closure, gas collection and control, leachate management, financial analyses, and stormwater design.

The Engineering Intern applies fundamental engineering principles to perform fundamental design tasks while acquiring and developing additional knowledge, experience and skills in a specific practice area. The Engineering Intern applies engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broad assignment. This position requires the exercise of judgment on details of work and in the application of standard engineering methods for conventional work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university
Registration: Registered Engineer Intern
Experience: None; 1-year student internship, ME, MS or PhD preferred
Other: Valid Driver's License with an acceptable MVR
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have applied knowledge expected from a BS degree in Engineering, including knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precise technical drawings. Must be skilled at using computer aided drafting or design software for designing, drafting, modeling, and other engineering tasks. Must stay up to date on knowledge of construction and government standards relevant to engineering and have the ability to learn and quickly apply new technical knowledge on the job. Must regularly use scientific rules and methods to solve problems as well as understand the implications of new information for current and future problem solving and decision making.
