Currently, HGL has a position open for a mid-level Staff Scientist.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: field assessment, site characterization, related sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater, and data analysis and review; assessment and application of remedial technologies; supervising field subcontractors; preparing field logs; field sampling in support of remedial activities; calibration and operation of field monitoring equipment; preparation and review of field documentation and logbooks; and preparation of reports. Technical support and/or supervision of a variety of project tasks will be required. Must be able to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently. Travel will be required.
Required skills include: excellent communication and organization; working with and maintaining confidential information; working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; working under detailed quality assurance/quality control programs; supporting contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater and surface water assessment (field and data components); environmental monitoring; generating clear and legible field documentation, logbooks, and reports; supervising field subcontractors; operating field instruments.
Working knowledge of data management and presentation methods is a plus. Ability to assess and apply a variety of remedial technologies to multiple environmental mediums is preferred.
A minimum of four years’ experience performing the duties of a scientist supporting environmental compliance and remediation projects is required.
Previous experience (4 years or more) with contaminant assessment in multiple environmental media, application of remedial technologies as they pertain to cleanup of soil and water environments, and knowledge of federal and/or state regulatory cleanup requirements is preferred. Experience with assessment and presentation of environmental data is preferred.
The Staff Scientist position requires a minimum of a BA/BS degree in a field related to Environmental Studies such as Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, or Chemistry plus 4 years of experience.
Master of Science degree in a related science or engineering field of study.
Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour, annual 8-hour refresher, medical clearance (including respirator use), first aid, and CPR training certifications (or the ability to obtain these certifications) are required. Good physical health and the ability to lift 30 pounds are required for performance of field tasks. Ability to work in adverse weather and site conditions is required.
A pre-hire drug test is required and some positions may require a fit for duty baseline physical. Most positions require U.S. citizenship.
