Help make Maine a destination for cutting edge businesses using renewable resources to create everyday products! We are seeking a Program Associate to work in our Sustainable Economy program area. The associate must have a strong analytic mindset, be proficient at working on multiple projects and balancing priorities, possess business experience and acumen, and be fluent in some basic scientific concepts.
What You’ll Do:
You will help advance the emerging biobased manufacturing sector in Maine. Biobased manufacturing means making everyday products, chemicals, and fuels with renewable raw materials instead of petroleum. We believe biobased manufacturing is an opportunity to ensure safer products, reduce risks associated with climate change, and create good jobs in rural Maine to sustain healthy families.
Reporting to our Sustainable Economy Program Director, and coordinating as appropriate with other staff, you will help advance the goals of our Sustainability Economy program, develop information for and help conduct analyses of emerging biobased manufacturing technologies and companies, promote Maine’s assets and opportunities at national and international industry conferences, attend meetings with and document learnings from industry stakeholders throughout the supply chain, and provide project coordination and assistance with multiple projects.
Under contract, the Environmental Health Strategy Center provides staffing to the trade association Biobased Maine. The Program Associate will support Biobased Maine’s membership recruitment, administrative work, and maintaining relationships with member companies.
Who We Need:
We’re looking for someone who has experience with business, science, economic development, green technology, and/or renewable energy. You need strong analytic capability, technical competence, and familiarity with business concepts, but also understand the mission-driven aspects of this work and how it relates to public health.

Location: This position will work out of our office located in downtown Portland, Maine.
