What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.
GS-4 $33,780 (Step 01) to $43,909 (Step 10);
GS-5 $37,793 (Step 01) to $49,133 (Step 10);

As a Hydrologic Technician within the California Water Science Center, some of your specific duties may include:
-Performs routine measurements of stage and discharge applying various methods and using different equipment depending on field conditions.
-Participates in the construction of a variety of gages and supporting structures.
-Performs routine water quality measurements such as water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen and alkalinity.
-Collects water level data from ground water wells using standard procedures and equipment.
-Performs routine levels circuits to establish vertical datum at surface water and groundwater gages.
Working Conditions: The work regularly requires considerable dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion such as that needed to: climb, swim, or work in areas where footing is treacherous such as on slippery river banks, in steep or rocky terrain, around heavy machinery, and in fast-moving water; lift heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds or more. Work regularly requires employee to be outside in hot/cold environments for long periods of time.
