Join the team in our new Salt Lake City office, where you will have an opportunity to lead and work on large, complex, and challenging projects for a leading environmental consulting firm with an expanding presence in the U.S. and Canada. The selected candidate will have a role in day-to-day client service and business development and will help develop our presence and establish our assessment and remediation capabilities in the intermountain west markets. Typical business-development activities will include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, and sharing Barr’s capabilities with existing and potential clients. Project work may include managing multidiscipline teams; preparing technical work plans, cost estimates; coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments; investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; developing site management strategies and response action plans; coordinating site remediation activities; and evaluating the hydrogeologic impacts of mining and energy development. Additionally, the selected candidate will lead client and regulatory negotiations and mentor junior staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or civil, environmental, geological, or chemical engineering
  • Ten or more years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated client-relationship and business development skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading multidiscipline teams
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with state and federal environmental, waste and water regulations
  • Demonstrated project management and organization skills
  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
  • Willingness to travel for business development purposes
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in geology or civil, environmental, geological, or chemical engineering
  • Fifteen or more years of relevant work experience
  • Registration as a professional engineer or geologist in Utah or the ability to obtain it within a year
  • Established network with area clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
