This position is located in the Bureau of Environmental Health Services, Office of Environmental Laboratory Certification. Responsibilities include the evaluation and certification of environmental laboratories performing Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation Recovery Act regulatory analyses under State Regulation 61-81. Duties include the review of applications for certification for completeness; review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for compliance with EPA approved methodology; review of proficiency testing (PT) results; review of technical data to ensure compliance with the SOP and the EPA approved method. On-site laboratory evaluations are performed to evaluate the analytical techniques, instrumentation, quality control procedures and record keeping practices of laboratories reporting environmental monitoring data to the Department. Duties also include the review of quality assurance project plans (QAPPs) for special studies for adherence to the DHEC Quality Management Plan (QMP); discussing findings with the program area and with Quality Assurance Manager (QAM); providing technical assistance to the QAM on approval of special studies; assisting the QAM with updates for the EA QMP every five years or as deemed necessary.
