Xcel Energy is looking for interns to work during the Summer of 2018, with the opportunity to work part-time during the 2018-2019 school year.

Position Summary: 

Work with Xcel Energy Environmental staff to conduct avian, fisheries, and aquatic studies at power plants in MN, WI, ND and SD.  The position will involve collection, identification, weighing and measuring fish and other aquatic organisms.  Enter collected data into spreadsheets, conduct statistical analysis of the data, and draft reports.  Much of the time will be spent outdoors working in a variety of weather conditions, including inclement conditions, and on a non-typical work schedule including extended hours, nights and weekends.  Through practical field experience and mentoring, successful candidate will gain significant professional and personal skills. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must be currently enrolled student, sophomore level or above, in Natural Sciences, Biology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA in a Bachelor’s degree program (transcripts must be provided).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various work locations.
  • MS Office experience (Word and Excel) required.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds repetitively throughout the day to complete necessary work tasks during field biological work.
