Environmental Technician - Seasonal Opportunity*
The City of Rochester, Minnesota Public Works Department operates and maintains the infrastructure required to convey and treat the City of Rochester's wastewater at the Water Reclamation Plant. Crews work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to ensure wastewater is conveyed from customers home or business connection in the street to the Water Reclamation Plant. Clean, reclaimed water is then discharged to the Zumbro River. Efficient operations of the collection system and treatment plant help make Rochester a leading service provider.

The Water Reclamation Plant is seeking to hire an individual for temporary summer employment. Duties include industrial sampling and investigation, lab sampling and analysis, collection system monitoring and sampling, river sampling, and assisting plant staff as needed.
$13 to $15 per hour depending on education / experience.
Normal hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
*Pursuant to MN Statute, seasonal assignments are limited to 67 working days per calendar year or 100 working days per calendar year if the employees are under the age of 22, are full-time students enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired by the employer, and have indicated, either in an application for employment or by being enrolled at an educational institution for the next academic year or term, an intention to continue as students during or after their temporary employment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assigned duties in the Water Reclamation Plant Division may include:
Education and Experience
Completion of at least one year of college or technical school in a field related to environmental science, operations, chemistry, biology, engineering, math or science, and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver's license
Post-secondary grade point average of at least 2.5
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skill in: professional communication and developing effective working relationships.
Ability to: operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions; work independently; perform work in an outdoor construction environment with variable weather conditions; and prepare thoughts and ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
