Brown and Caldwell seeks a Construction/Remediation Engineer with 3 - 5 years’ experience in the remediation construction industry.  The Staff Construction Engineering function is seen as an essential member of the overall project delivery team. This role will have high visibility within all phases of the project life cycle including a leadership role in the field executing various types of remediation construction projects. This role will support many aspects of the project while developing the necessary management skills required when engaging in greater project leadership within the IPD organization.

The candidate will require effective communication skills and knowledge of the engineering, construction and commissioning principles of projects. The effective execution of this role will include support of both senior project management as well as field construction delivery forces. The successful candidate will be based at both regional offices and field sites during the execution of their respective role.

Job Expectations:

This role will support a wide range of tasks during the overall life cycle of a project; Primary focus will be on delivering IPD remediation project solutions to both existing and new clients.  The successful candidate will work closely with the IPD project managers and technical staff.

Primary responsibilities to include:

  • Perform construction management oversight and administration tasks, including supporting the Construction Manager, engineers, inspectors and project assistant as needed
  • Review and analyze contractor's schedule along with interpreting project plans and specifications during field construction activities. 
  • Investigate/research engineering and construction issues to determine potential solutions and associated cost/schedule/performance ramifications
  • Expedite submittal and RFI responses, including technical and administrative functions
  • Coordinate in the field with contractors, BC designers and project managers
  • Prepare daily reports documenting weather, equipment, manpower, and construction activities; and daily progress photos. Review and provide input on potential change order issues
  • Conduct reviews of the files for required paperwork including, but not limited to staff inspections, schedules, sampling data, amendments and certifications. Review and become familiar with the project contract requirements (scope of work) and project schedule.
  • Maintain project records and project photographic records
  • Comply with company and, client, health and safety training requirements

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ professional related experience
  • Proven field experience in coordination of the primary responsibilities essential to the position.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • BS engineering or construction management, environmental/civil engineering, or related discipline required
  • Proven track record of successfully engaging as part of a project team on construction and/or remediation projects.
  • Excellent computer skills and the use of software including but not limited to Excel, Word,  AutoCAD and database management tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the implementation of the daily execution of key functions while coordinating with engineering and management staff.
  • Flexibility in geography as related to office and/or project site location, with ability to relocate as needed.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, implementation, and guidance.
  • Ability to travel to work sites regionally at least 50% of the time and ability to accommodate overnight stays on a regular basis a MUST.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
  • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
  • Ability to lift objects on job sites less than 30 pounds
  • Ability to walk slowly around a construction site of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
  • Ability to perform field work in adverse conditions as needed.
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction operations (i.e. pouring concrete).
