Job Description

The Sustainability Analyst is responsible for assisting the Manager of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability on ensuring the Company adheres to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building design concepts and construction methods; in addition to the operational commitments made for a “Silver level” certification sanctioned by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This role champions best practices in waste minimization, recycling, sustainable purchasing, energy and water conservation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide support to the Manager, Environmental Compliance and Sustainability in setting organizational sustainability targets for the newly built environment, and the development of plans to track performance;
2. Track operational performance of building energy systems (i.e. mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) and other building systems as required by the LEED Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance (EB:OM) certification;
3. Document and identify trends in energy and water consumptive use at the new terminal;
4. Report on key performance indicators relating to landfill diversion and recycling capture rates;
5. Monitor and audit the implementation of internal company policies and procedures established as part of the USGBC LEED EB:OM silver level certification for LGA Central Terminal B (CTB);
6. Research certified sustainable products and materials currently available for commercial use;
7. Proactively liaise with Finance to ensure sustainable procurement for goods and services;
8. Engage and become knowledgeable on the commissioning plan established for the newly developed terminal, operational set points, and sensors that have been installed to monitor building system components;
9. Experience in data processing and analysis, developing metrics and projections based on analysis results, and report writing;
10. Train, promote and raise awareness at all levels of the company, and for sub-lessees and facility contractors, of LGP’s EMS program and environmental stewardship principles; and
11. Active participant at Sustainability Committee meetings which serve as an open forum for airport community stakeholders to discuss emergent issues or operational challenges.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, architecture or a closely related field
2. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of the LEED certification requirements and sustainability best practices
3. 2 years, minimum, of project experience related to LEED certification pursuits
4. Basic scientific knowledge, including chemistry
5. LEED Accredited Professional or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred
