The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Technician provides operations support for the Ramsey County Household Hazardous Waste Program (http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/ph/hw/household_hazardous_waste_collection_sites.htm).

Duties:
Accepts, documents, sorts, packages, and arranges for the disposal of household hazardous waste products in an efficient and appropriate manner.  Greets HHW customers, determines their needs, and answers HHW questions.  Properly operate and maintain and HHW field equipment.  Understand, comply and promote Bay West's corporate and project specific health & safety plans and procedures.  Become a member of one of our five Emergency Response teams. Emergency response activities include performing clean-up of hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, surface and ground water. You would be on call for a week at a time, approximately every five weeks.  This position is subject to a pre-employment physical and drug test, and random quarterly drug testing once hired. This position will be working outside, and subject to working in all-weather elements.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include:

High school diploma, GED, or 6 months of related experience or equivalent required 
Current valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required 
Possess or have access to reliable means of transportation on a 24 hour basis
Ability to obtain DOT Hazmat Endorsement within 45 days of employment. Truck driving experience preferred
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

College degree preferred
2 years experience preferred

DOT Hazmat Endorsement

40 Hour HAZWOPER certification and current on 8 hour refresher 

Essential Physical & Intellectual requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, and grasping
Work environment can include high heat, high humidity, and extreme cold
Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds
Ability to operate a forklift

Essential Travel Requirements:
Frequent in-state/non-overnight travel on a 24-hour basis for Emergency Response duties or potential field activities. Infrequent in-state and out-of-state overnight travel for Emergency Response duties or potential field activities.
