Job Description

About the role: 
We are currently seeking a Manager Environment & Community to join the Site Leadership Team (SLT) reporting directly to the General Manager at Wambo.  Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30 kilometers west of Singleton that produces metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets. 
Duties will include:

  • Ensure Wambo Coal meets or exceeds the obligations under its various environmental approval such as the Development Consent, Environmental Protection Licence, Mining Leases and Water Licences
  • Provide PEAC with environmental management advice as required.
  • Provide environmental advice on feasibility studies and due diligence on coal properties.
  • Manage and liaise with local landowners
  • Manage and liaise with native title claimants and Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) in relation to native title and cultural heritage
  • To develop a sound business relationship with the NSW EPA, Department of Planning and Department of Resources and Energy (DRE)
  • Providing advice on legislative requirements and best practice management measures;
  • Providing strategic input into the development of the operation;
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with statutory conditions;
  • Overseeing the administration of the Environmental Management System;
  • Working with local authorities and the community to develop constructive relationships;
  • Production and management of departmental budgets;
  • Leading and developing direct reports
  • Environment Manager will be responsible for all licenced water storage structures
  • Compliance with SAWOLMS

About You:

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science or other relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to manage environmental and community matters, while ensuring compliance with all legislative, policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislative compliance and interpretation across NSW
  • Previous experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management Systems
  • Auditing and risk management
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation and environmental monitoring programs
  • Use and application of GIS systems (desirable)
  • The ability to communicate well at all levels of the organisation, with excellent verbal and written skills
  • Project and contractor management experience
  • 5+ years’ operational experience within the environmental field
