The Herpetology Lab at the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center is seeking three temporary field researchers to assist with ongoing field studies of amphibian and reptile communities. This position is a 3-month appointment beginning March 1, 2018. An additional 3- 6 month contract extension may be awarded. Applications will be accepted until February 3, 2018 and candidates must be able to begin work on March 1, 2018.
The 28,000-acre Research Center is located approximately 30 miles south of Albany, Georgia. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems, harboring a rich array of ecosystems ranging from 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests and is host to a suite of rare, threatened, and endemic herpetofauna.
Job Requirements: The successful candidates will be responsible for the following: 1) larval amphibian dipnetting surveys in depressional wetlands, 2) measuring and marking upland snakes captured in box trap arrays, 3) measuring and marking gopher tortoises captured using tomahawk traps, 4) measuring and marking lizards using drift fences, 5) data entry, and 6) assisting with a variety of additional field/lab activities, as needed.
The successful applicants must be in good physical condition and willing to work at night and on weekends, periodically. Applicants must be able to work in very hot, humid, and buggy conditions.
Qualifications: Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university with coursework in wildlife ecology. Knowledge of southeastern herpetofauna is preferred.
Wages: $11.00 per hour with on site housing provided (No pets allowed). No benefits package is available.
