Job Description

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for managing, monitoring and coordinating all commercial and compliance aspects of Sempra's Renewable Energy Solar portfolio to maximize their value to the Company.  This role manages multiple people in the Solar group and has expanding responsibilities as new projects are added to the portfolio.  Overall management of the portfolio requires tactful commercial negotiations with joint venture partners, PPA customers, project finance counterparties and third party service providers to ensure maximum operating and financial performance of all assets in the portfolio.  This position reports to the Director of Asset Management.


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Coordinate and communicate to JV Partners the reporting of joint venture related deliverables including development of each asset’s quarterly Management Committee presentations (financial, operational, environmental, and safety) as well as other periodic required reporting in the JV agreement.
  • Lead Solar portfolio team with the goal to maximize operational and financial results of all projects in the portfolio.  Establish consistent approach to management of projects in portfolio to capture best practices and leverage lessons learned across the group. 
  • Proactively monitor project performance and draw on contractual and/or negotiation skills to influence actions to support favorable operational and financial results. 
  • Establish framework for compliance with contractual requirements of PPA’s, loans and Joint venture documents in portfolio. 
  • Lead the planning, budgeting and analysis of financial results for the portfolio of assets. 
  • Point of contact to Development and Origination groups for all new projects under consideration for their portfolio

External Qualifications:
Qualifications

Education

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or related business administration field. MBA or other advanced degree is desirable, but not required.

Experience

  • 7-10 years experience in renewable energy, project or structured finance lending, asset management or loan compliance. Specific knowledge of US government sponsored loan programs is desirable, but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to influence action through effective negotiation
  • Ability to build consensus among both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to understand the nuances and details of as well as manage and analyze complex commercial and financial contractual transactions
  • Experience with project finance transactions, complex project agreements and loan documentation, and reporting requirements related to loan compliance.
  • Ability to explain project finance requirements to internal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of financial and credit analysis including ability to develop plans and analyze pro forma financial models and financial projections/forecasts
  • Thorough understanding of activities associated with asset monitoring including compliance with loan documentation
  • Ability to identify key drivers of financial performance of assigned assets
