The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NR SHRO), in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming is accepting applications through USAJOBS, to fill one (1) permanent, full-time position of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Specialist (Interdisciplinary), GS-11 position. The position will be filled in ONE of the following four professional occupational series, within the Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR), in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. This position is being filled at the full performance grade level, with no promotion potential.

This position is located at Yellowstone's Park headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs. Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from a average maximum of 78 degrees in the summer to an average minimum of 15 degrees in the winter with a few weeks of sub-zero temperatures. Schools,with grade levels K-12, are available in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles of Mammoth.
Federal government housing may be available in Mammoth Hot Springs.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Supervisory GIS Specialist, Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR). The Yellowstone GIS Program aims to foster and implement innovative approaches to managing, analyzing, presenting and disseminating data produced and used by Yellowstone National Park programs for management decision-making needs, public and partner educational uses, and documenting geo-spatial data over time. This position will support the GIS Program by providing technical expertise and guidance in state-of-the-art techniques in geo-spatial data management and use, including promoting mobile and on-line GIS and supporting NG911. This position assists with research, development and implementation of various geospatial analytical and technological solutions that allow for successful geospatial data collection and analysis for various studies and programs. The incumbent utilizes knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), mobile GIS, on-line GIS, geodesy, addressing, remote sensing, mapping, and programming to plan, coordinate, and accomplish all geospatial analysis, and related GIS tasks necessary to support a variety of projects. The position requires the application of knowledge and experience with geographic and cartographic practices and methodologies for the creation and analysis of geospatial data. The work involves a wide variety of techniques for on-going programs and many projects that require analytical procedures. The incumbent will establish individual product schedules, recruit and supervise seasonal/intern/volunteer staff, assign projects to staff as available, and report on project progress and challenges to the Supervisory GIS Specialist.
