The region environmental program coordinator is responsible for delivering all environmental work required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) on time and on budget for transportation projects and related activities, and to ensure that the department environmental goals are met. As the successful candidate, you will classify the work under NEPA, and lead a team of environmental specialists who conduct all environmental activities as they relate to a transportation project, which includes reconnaissance, development, construction and maintenance activities.

Additional Details

  • This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before June 30, 2019. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service.  This position could become permanent due to a change in business needs.
  • This position is currently included in a statewide classification study. The classification and salary are subject to change.
  • This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience. One (1) year of which must have included research design and analysis; AND 
  • A Bachelor's degree with 30 quarter or 20 semester hours in an environmental science, a physical science, a natural science, engineering, or a closely-related field. 
  • Three (3) additional years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
  • NOTE: You must attach transcripts to your application to receive credit for coursework.

Special Qualifications
Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).

Preferred Attributes
We may show preference to candidates whose application materials demonstrate the following preferred attributes. We will use the items on this list along with our essay-style supplemental questions to determine whom to interview.  

  • Conducting environmental analysis or managing environmental components of transportation related projects experience.
  • Knowledge and application of environmental regulations (NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act).
  • Collaboration with multiple jurisdictions (federal, state, and local) to deliver projects.
  • Managing multiple projects, coordinating with technical colleagues. 
  • Transportation systems experience.
