Freshwater Future is working to ensure the healthy future of our waters in the Great Lakes region. We do this by encouraging policy enforcement and accountability through community action; developing tactical responses to community needs and emerging issues and synthesizing common concerns into strategic policy solutions. Through these efforts, we work with over 2,000 grassroots watershed groups and 15,000 residents to protect and restore the drinking water, groundwater, rivers, lakes, and wetlands in their communities. The Member Services Coordinator plays a vital role in the achievement of these goals. Role of the Development and Membership Coordinator Freshwater Future’s individual and organizational members provide significant philanthropic support for our organization each year. Our goal is to ensure that all of our members receive high-value benefits, experience strong customer service, and feel a deep mission connection to our organization. This position manages Freshwater Future’s membership programs with a focus on member renewals, retention, recruitment, tracking, and reporting. The Development and Membership Coordinator is a key link with our members. S/he will ensure that the membership program is well-organized and meets the needs of diverse constituents across the Great Lakes region. S/he will work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to ensure that membership is fully integrated across all facets of Freshwater Future’s work. The Coordinator will carry out a range of development activities, including data management, production of acknowledgment letters, management of the membership drive and annual appeals, generation of mailing lists and reports, coordination with design, print and mailing contractors, and direct contact with members and potential members. Responsibilities Coordination of our Membership Program: Ensure that data about our members is accurate and up-to-date, using Salsa and Salesforce CRM. Process donations; manage membership recruitment and renewal appeals and invoicing. Monitor and report on key metrics related to membership growth and generate reports to inform member engagement strategy. Coordinate current member service programs including relationship building and contracting for our consulting services. Develop and maintain all office/electronic files and systems associated with membership. Craft membership development strategy, including identifying best practices and engaging in program planning with other staff members. Member Outreach and Communications: Serve as central point of contact for members; respond to general inquiries. Orient new members. Communicate membership value and benefits to current and prospective members via our website, mail and email communications. Develop and implement member recruitment campaigns Engage staff and board in member recruitment and retention. Assist with building a corporate giving program. Utilize online tools to engage members in advocacy actions. General: Participate in planning/organizing conferences and events as needed. Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with organizational and event sponsors. As a member of the staff team, work on special projects throughout the year. Represent the organization at events, which may include some travel throughout the Great Lakes. Skills and Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) with at least three years related work experience in membership or fundraising with preference given to those with nonprofit experience. Excellent customer service skills and attitude. Experience working with diverse populations. Commitment to our mission and belief in the value of water and communities as drivers of social justice, and change. Outstanding verbal/written communication skills. Proficiency in Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and membership/development Databases are required. Experience with Salsa, and Salesforce preferred. Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects and priorities effectively and professionally. Ability to travel and current driver’s license required.
