We have an opening in our Los Gatos office for an entry-level full-time environmental / regulatory permit technician. This person will spend a substantial amount of time supporting senior managers, preparing permit forms, facilitating processing with regulatory agencies, and helping to prepare technical studies to support them. Regulatory permits help protect sensitive jurisdictional areas and optimize projects to reduce impacts, and are a critical link between environment science and environmental law and policy. Our permitted projects vary widely, from small infrastructure improvements involving a few hundred square feet of agency jurisdiction, to highway improvement projects that extend for dozens of miles, to large-scale restoration projects involving thousands of acres. We get to work with various federal, state, and local agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, California Coastal Commission, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the State Water Resources Control Board and Regional Water Quality Control Boards. Job responsibilities: Conduct desktop research assist with data and acreage tracking, reporting, and agency communications, primarily in support of environmental permitting Assist in the preparation and packaging of forms for Clean Water Act permits, Section 401 and 404, BCDC permits, CDFW 1602 Notifications, or other permit applications Assist with organizational systems for tracking permits that have been issued or permits currently being processed Coordinate the completion of GIS analysis and research with a general concept of cartographic design Assist with fieldwork, as appropriate Perform other duties, as assigned Required qualifications: BS degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Urban Planning, Biology, or related degree Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental policy and regulations is beneficial but not required. However, interest in and willingness to learn aspects of these laws and the regulatory process is essential. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment, both internally and with clients Proactive self-starter willing to tackle a variety of tasks simultaneously Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Knowledge and experience with Arc GIS is a plus About H.
