JOB DESCRIPTION: Join our team of organizers and program staff as the Communications Director to make the world a better place! Take part in our work to promote water quality, renewable energy, local food and economic systems, and healthy soil. Work with members from all over the state to make change happen at the grassroots level. The Communications Director is responsible for promoting public education and recognition of our issues, as well as upholding our reputation as a knowledgeable and credible organization. SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE: Ensure that our work is well-covered in print and broadcast news Write press releases and other outreach materials Prep member spokespersons Advance our work on newspaper editorial pages Uphold the quality of all our outreach tools (factsheets, PowerPoints, videos, etc.) Manage our digital / social media outreach (including website, email campaigns, etc.) Direct production of our newsletter and email newsletter Lead monthly meetings of our communications team plus weekly communications check-in meetings Make sure that our organizational brand is integrated into our messages Perform other tasks that advance the work of the organization (grassroots fundraising, maintaining media contact list, etc.) QUALIFICATIONS: Commitment to Northern Plains’ issues and values; ability to get along well with people from diverse backgrounds; strong writing and editing skills; willingness to work long hours when needed. Also essential: experience at working with news outlets and reporters; graphic design and digital communication; and experience working with websites. Also helpful: experience working for social change or on environmental issues; political campaign experience; familiarity with conservation and agriculture issues. This is can be a fast-paced job where you will have strong influence regarding when, where, and how we convey our message to the public.
