Job Description

The Sawtooth Fish Hatchery in Stanley is seeking two (2) non-benefited Fisheries Technicians.

Dates Needed:

  • The tentative dates that this position is needed are June 5, 2017 – October 6, 2017.

General Information: This position, with or without reasonable accommodations, require standing and working in cold water and for up to five hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds; and working in extreme weather conditions. Occasional field travel may be necessary and weekend work rotation will be required. Possibility of dormitory style housing provided on site.

Responsibilities: Assist in the trapping, spawning, and rearing of Chinook salmon at the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery in Stanley (Idaho) and perform routine fish culture duties such as feeding fish, cleaning and caring for fish rearing vessels, maintaining grounds and equipment, cleaning hatchery facilities and offices, and other duties as assigned. Collect, organize, and inventory biological tissue samples during Chinook spawning operations. Occasionally, assist with hatchery tours and interact with hatchery visitors.

Qualifications: A degree in a Natural Resource/Biological Science or related field is strongly preferred. Previous fish hatchery experience is beneficial but not required. Ideal candidates will have experience: organizing, coordinating, and conducting field activities associated with fisheries or wildlife research; sampling tissues for fish health, aging, and/or genetic analysis; organizing and inventorying biological samples. Demonstrated ability to handle responsibilities and work independently. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid driver's license.
