Job Description: Waste Management Specialist Senior-LTE

50% Technical and compliance assistance. Provide technical assistance to individuals, businesses, and municipalities that manage hazardous waste. Conduct inspections to determine compliance with applicable state regulations. Serve as the Department contact for waste related issues in assigned counties. Assure cross program integration with other programs and agencies. Promote alternatives to waste landfilling.

25% Plan review, rule interpretation, data management. Review various types of facility submittals, annual reports, manifests, rule interpretations requests, etc. in order to determine compliance with state and federal regulations and program policies and as evidence in hazardous waste enforcement cases and other regulatory compliance efforts. Provide data for inclusion in program database systems.

20% Compliance Enforcement. Document and communicate results of regulatory inspections. Support and implement stepped enforcement policies and procedures including, but not limited to preparation of notices of noncompliance, case activity reports, enforcement summaries, referral memos and other relevant enforcement documentation. Support and assist Environmental Enforcement staff in the preparation of documentation and participate in enforcement conferences.

5% Participate in meetings and training events. Other related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge Required:
Qualified candidates should have:
-a degree or equivalent experience in a science, natural resources, or engineering based field;
-excellent communication skills in all forms to convey complex topics in understandable format;
-a working chemistry knowledge in areas such as pH, reactivity, flammability; and
-be proficient in computer technology and software applications.

***NOTE*** This position will be half-time (20 hours per week over the course of a year). This position is being filled in conjunction with the Waste Management Specialist Senior Job #11250. One person could be hired to fill each job, but you must apply for both.
