HDR currently has an opening for a Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist to join our team in Chattanooga, TN to support environmental planning, permitting and compliance projects. 

Position will primarily be in support of power industry clients, but could include work in other industries or for national clients. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in planning, preparation and analysis/review of technical studies, permit applications, environmental documents, and related regulatory or engineering reports/documents. Position will also support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise. Work environments may vary based on the specific project, so candidate should be able to work independently or in conjunction with technical and professional teams from local and regional offices. Additionally position may involve planning and implementing public participation and consultation/outreach to federal, state and local government agencies and regional stakeholders. Project management experience is desired, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality of products.

  • Bachelors' degree in planning/environmental policy/environmental science or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in comprehensive environmental impact review, planning, compliance, and permitting projects is required.
  • Experience managing environmental permitting and environmental documents for power or other utility infrastructure projects is necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NEPA review and documentation processes is required.
  • Technical expertise in the implementation, interpretation and presentation of technical data, reports and environmental studies and investigations in specialized disciplines into well written, clear, high quality environmental review documentation is also required.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Self- starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, critical thinking and research abilities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with clients and independently.
    Staff management experience beneficial.
