The Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) seeks applicants for the position of Seasonal Engineering Aide I. The position starts on May 30, 2017 and ends on September 1, 2017 (approximately 14 weeks). This position does not have any benefits associated with, but may be eligible for earned sick leave credits as applicable.
In support of the Air Assessment Branch (AAB) Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Sites (PAMS) program, and under the supervision of AAB staff, the Engineering Aide I assists PAMS project members in collecting, preparing and analyzing samples, and processing and reviewing PAMS data. Duties include extraction and analysis in a bench-scale chemistry environmentand collecting samples and checking on the status of instrumentation at field sites throughout Massachusetts. The Engineering Aide must be able to use their own vehicle to drive to monitoring station locations, and will be reimbursed at MassDEP’s standard mileage rate. The Engineering Aide will periodically be required to perform other tasks in support of AAB activities, including assisting staff in site maintenance and set up. This position is geared toward a college or graduate student following a science-based curriculum. Preferred work experience includes: 1. Education and knowledge in and/or experience in general physical science, especially chemistry or air pollution science. 2. Basic understanding of mechanical systems and proficiency in the operation of hand tools. 3. Knowledge, education and/or experience working in a laboratory environment. 4. Experience working in a field environment.

Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
