Law Clerk Position Description: Columbia Riverkeeper is accepting applications for 2017 summer and semester law clerks. Riverkeeper focuses on giving law clerks hands-on experience working with the organization’s staff attorneys and outside counsel to improve legal writing and research skills while learning about laws that protect habitat and water quality in the Columbia River.
Organization: Columbia Riverkeeper protects and restores the water quality of the Columbia River and all life connected to it, from the headwaters to the Pacific, by combining strategic litigation and grassroots activism. Riverkeeper is a non-profit conservation organization based in the scenic Columbia River Gorge town of Hood River, Oregon. Riverkeeper works on a number of the most pressing environmental issues in the Pacific Northwest, including protecting the Columbia from coal export terminals, oil shipping terminals, and toxic pollution. Riverkeeper’s caseload includes Clean Water Act enforcement actions, litigation under state and federal open government laws, and land use cases.
Qualifications: Must be a current or recent law school student. Demonstrated commitment to conservation and desire to practice public interest environmental law required. Attention to detail and strong legal research skills a must. Experience with civil litigation, administrative, or environmental law a plus.
