Job Description

Duke Energy Renewables Group offers qualified students, in accredited engineering programs leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree, the opportunity to work in various areas of engineering support as part of the engineering internship program. Duke Energy Renewables builds, owns, operates, and maintains wind and solar electric generating facilities throughout the United States outside of the Duke Energy regulated utility service area. Engineering interns will work in support of staff engineers or under supervision of engineers providing electrical engineering support of these activities to ultimately ensure safe and reliable operation of these assets.  

This internship position is open for students pursuing a degree in undergraduate studies in Engineering. In addition to working within your discipline, you may be asked to work across a multi-engineering discipline platform. 

This internship position will be based in Charlotte, NC, and may require travel to various other renewables facilities outside of the area. The internship will be from May – August 2017. 

Working Conditions:

  • Office and field environment – requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional exposure to temperature and noise

Qualifications: 

Basic Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Requires a valid driver’s license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Majoring in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to provide the quantity and quality of work necessary to reach an accomplishment
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making
  • Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve a common goal
  • Ability to deliver superior results within an allocated time though effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work
  • Demonstrates tenacity by remaining persistent in the face of adversity
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the use of computers, software, and engineering applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry
  • Previous engineering work experience
