Job Description


Major duties at both grades include:

  • Implementing established natural resource management projects, particularly aquatic resource and water quality monitoring.
  • Operating jet boats in shallow river environment or accessing sites by canoe or kayak.
  • Making and recording field observation of natural resource conditions.
  • Installing, operating, calibrating, and maintaining an inventory of resource management equipment. 
  • Utilize a variety of computer programs to compile, retrieve, analyze and report data and other resource management information. Maintain and organizes computer databases.
  • Prepares draft reports, plans, and guidelines.

At the GS-6 level, major duties will also include leading or training others in the above duties; ensuring compliance with quality assurance practices; identifying causes and recommending solutions problems in the field and/or lab; assisting with logistics for field projects; and assisting with development of data sampling techniques. If you successfully complete required training and demonstrate sufficient expertise in operating jet boats, you may operate jet boats in the course of the your duties.

If selected at the GS-5 level, there is no advancement opportunity to the GS-6 level without competing again. This announcement is anticipated to be used to fill one temporary not to exceed 1039 hour Biological Science Technician (Aquatic Resources) GS-0404-05 position and one Biological Science Technician (Aquatic Resources) GS-0404-06 position at Ozark National Scenic Riverways near Van Buren, Missouri. However, more positions may be filled if funding is available. We anticipate this position to start in mid-May, 2017.
