The duty station for this position is Curecanti National Recreation Area, located 16 miles west of Gunnison, Colorado. The park encompasses three reservoirs, including Blue Mesa Reservoir, the largest body of water in Colorado. The two lower reservoirs are within the spectacular Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
Researches, prepares, and presents interpretive programs that meet the standards of the interpretive profession, including boat tours and evening campground programs.
Roves trails and marinas providing recreation and safety information as well as informal interpretive services.
Presenting formal and informal on-site campground programs in amphitheaters; responsible for set up, break-down, operation, and troubleshooting of A/V equipment and presentation of interpretive content.
Representing the park at outreach functions in local communities, providing information on the park and conducting activities to engage communities with the resources of the park.
Assists certified motorboat operators in making contacts by boat on flat water.
Staffs visitor centers, selling bookstore materials, taking reservations, providing information and informal interpretation in person, via phone and by mail. Utilizes computers heavily in performance of duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
