The Trust for Public Land – Federal Affairs department is seeking to fill a 3 to 6 month temporary position (with potential for extension) that will organize and oversee our grassroots/grasstops advocacy and outreach effort. In addition to our leadership role on federal funding efforts like permanent reauthorization and full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund as well as assisting state and field offices deliver our Land for People mission on the ground, the Federal Affairs department is deeply engaged on a daily basis in the organization’s public advocacy, recommending positions on a range of policies. As TPL’s in-house lobbying shop, Federal Affairs staff is also working with Congress, federal agencies and our non-governmental partners on developing and implementing a strong defense against attacks. With the start of the 115th Congress, the pace of legislation and policy related to conservation funding and public lands is accelerating. While we are not a true membership organization, TPL has an impressive cadre of volunteers at the national and local levels who are, at present, a significant untapped resource for us. Similarly, there is a significant opportunity to develop more robust state, regional and local grassroots and outside partner support related to our ongoing land protection work to ensure that it is a priority for members of Congress and the new Administration. This will also engage local supporters in the broader public lands and funding advocacy efforts.
