Job Description and Duties
The Monitoring and Laboratory Division (MLD) of the California Air Resources Board (ARB) is seeking qualified applicants to serve as the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Officer for the Standards Laboratory. The Standards Laboratory provides certification/verification services for the compressed gases and transfer standard devices needed to perform calibrations and quality control checks throughout the California ambient air monitoring network. Under the general direction of the Manager of the Quality Assurance Section (QAS), the successful incumbent will be responsible for: developing, implementing and performing laboratory quality measures for verifying and certifying measurement standards used to evaluate the performance of ambient air monitoring instruments; and verifying the accuracy and precision of gaseous and particulate pollutant measuring instruments, and meteorological sensors operated by monitoring organizations in California. This will be fulfilled by: defining and interpreting QA/QC objectives, standards, targets and processes; ensuring quality objectives are maintained for data collection and evaluation; identifying non-conformance issues and recommending corrective action; performing statistical analyses of data using scientific methods and techniques. In addition, duties will include conducting ambient air monitoring station performance audits and assisting with special event air monitoring activities. These activities serve as an important element of ARB's commitment to produce accurate, timely, and relevant ambient air quality data for public awareness, regulatory purposes, and research studies.

This position will require the employee to pass a pre-placement physical examination as condition of employment. This position also requires the employee to possess a valid California driver's license and to pass training courses (including periodic refresher courses) in first-aid/CPR and defensive driver training. Commitment to occasional travel to all areas of the state (urban, rural, and remote) is necessary.
The QAS is located in the MLD facility at 13th and T Streets in Sacramento (close to downtown and light rail).
