Job Description


Typical tasks include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Write, review, update and implement environmental programs, procedures, reports and training as required by UTC and P&W Policy and all Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies
  • Inspect, audit, assess and sample facility activities related to work practices for compliance as required by law and directed by the Plant Manager and UTC policy
  • Follow the EH&S Management System and work in a team environment to drive corporate and global EHS initiatives, analyze and assess trend data, and facilitate relevant Environmental training
  • Maintain site’s chemical and hazardous material inventory and other required air emissions documentation
  • Update waste profiles and help oversee hazardous waste management and disposal in accordance with all regulatory requirements
  • Update the Site’s Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan, Resource Conservation & Pollution Plan, and Integrated Contingency Plan
  • Coordinate and Perform inspections, collect samples, and analyze data. Work with facility personnel to achieve goals for reduction in water usage, GHG emissions, industrial process wastes, etc. reducing our environmental footprint
  • Analyze environmental incidents and near misses to determine root cause and provide corrective action that eliminates repeat occurrences
  • Uses the Lean tools (ACE) to make improvements to the EHS management systems
  • Interacts with employees on a daily bases to promote relationships, learn the tasks employees perform and be known as a resource to the employees at the facility
  • Flexibility to perform work on all shifts
  • Limited travel


  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English


  • Strong understanding of factory equipment, manufacturing, field safety and EH&S management systems
  • Adaptable to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy within a diverse organization
  • Continuous Improvement experience e.g. ACE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc. strongly desired
  • Strong technical, interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Capable of working with a wide range of people from the site leader to shop floor and of providing team leadership when required to meet highly aggressive goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge in EH&S regulatory and management systems, including compliance with all local/state/federal regulations in regards to air, storm water, wastewater and hazardous waste


  • BA/BS degree with 6 – 10+ years related experience, MA/MS degree with 4 – 7+ years related experience, or PhD degree with 2 – 4+ years related experience


  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
  • Additional certifications, such as CSP, CIH, P.E. or CHMM, strongly preferred
