Job Summary

AECOM’s Ecological Resources Team is seeking a full time Scientist (Wildlife Biologist/ Botanist /Field Ecologist) for immediate employment in the Miami, FL office. The appropriately qualified candidate will be a dynamic individual, capable of conducting field surveys and delivering high-quality technical reports.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Gathering, organizing, and analyzing field data to be used in the preparation of scientific reports

  • Conducting environmental impact assessments and field surveys for rare, threatened, or endangered species and their habitats

  • Conducting habitat assessments and vegetation classifications, including wetland delineations

  • Preparing high-quality technical reports and environmental permit application packages

  • May require working long field days outdoors, sometimes under rigorous conditions (e.g., hot and/or rainy weather, remote areas, in a variety of habitats)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, or other closely related field

  • 2+ years of relevant professional work experience

  • Experience with field data collection, data review, and preparation of technical documents

  • Experience with environmental permitting, wetland delineations, ecological assessments, wildlife studies, and threatened/endangered species of Florida and their habitats

  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental laws and regulations (Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, etc.) as they relate to biological resource impacts and environmental permitting

  • Self-motivated individual with a strong attention to detail, good time-use skills, and ability to work in a team environment

  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to handle the demands of multiple priorities for various clients and projects

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills

  • Must be a self-starter and motivated in producing high-quality results

  • Must be able to interact directly with clients and local regulatory agencies in a professional manner

  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications

  • Willingness and availability to travel occasionally (within Florida)

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, or other closely related field

  • Expertise in Florida ecosystems and plant identification

  • Wetland delineation skills including knowledge of and experience with the FDEP’s Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM)

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and analysis

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
