Job Description

Description: Four Seasonal Positions as Resource Assistants are available with the DEEP Forestry Division. Two positions will work out of the DEEP's Pleasant Valley Field Office in Barkhamsted and two will work out of the Eastern District Headquarters in Marlborough. Both positions will work throughout the assigned districts and may work statewide as needed. 

Duties: Forest management tasks are entry level to assist DEEP Foresters. Tasks include marking boundary lines, collecting forest inventory data, preparing areas for harvest, conducting timber stand improvement projects, boundary line encroachment investigation, and possibly forest fire suppression.  

Qualifications: Candidates should have successfully completed coursework in dendrology, forest measurements, and silviculture.  Familiarity with Trimble data collectors, the NorthEast Decision (NED), GPS and GIS ArcMap is a plus. Forestry school graduate with BS in Forestry preferred. Valid driver’s license is required. 

Hours per week:  Maximum 40 hours per week. 

Anticipated length of position: Starting May/June 2017. Position is 1030 hours in duration.
