Job Description

We are seeking an environmental compliance intern during the summer of 2017 for one of our Minnesota – Twin Cities offices. As an intern in the Environmental Compliance and Permitting group, you can expect to carry out a variety of different tasks related to multi-media environmental compliance and permitting for a variety of facilities.

The Environmental Compliance and Permitting group scope of services includes compliance and permitting associated with air quality, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste, storage tanks, emergency planning and community right-to-know (EPCRA), Oil Pollution Act (OPA), environmental management systems/ISO 14001, environmental auditing, environmental review, human health risk assessments, industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety compliance, sustainability, and natural resources/ecological surveys.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to providing assistance with: preparing permit application forms, documenting emission calculations, preparing reports/plans, data entry and analysis, assessing the applicability of environmental regulations, site inspections, quality assurance/quality control, collecting samples, and communicating with clients.

  • Currently pursuing or graduated with a minimum of a four year Bachelor’s degree in engineering with environmental coursework, environmental science, or related field from an ABET accredited university.
  • Experience with software programs including the Microsoft suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Relative office or field experience. Examples: technical report writing, scientific/engineering calculations, sample collection, laboratory analyses, regulations review, etc.
  • Able to drive a motor vehicle, traverse hot/cold environments with sometimes varying terrain, use ladders and steps, wear/use personal protective equipment, and manage minimal lifting.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Customer service experience/skills are desired.

  • Responsibilities will vary dependent on workload and current projects for the duration of the internship. At times our interns are asked to complete tasks indirectly related to serving our customers such as transporting equipment/tools between job sites, running samples to the appropriate laboratory, or delivering vehicles/equipment for maintenance and general office assistance.
