Job Description

CH2M's Environmental team in Glasgow has significant committed workload including a number of new and legacy Transportation and Water infrastructure projects. To meet these existing and anticipated demands we require an experienced Environmental Coordinator to join the team and provide experience and capability. 

This role will support the appraisal, design and delivery of transportation and water infrastructure projects in Scotland and northern England, primarily road infrastructure but also flood and coastal risk management, water supply and sewerage infrastructure and others.

 These services will be across a range of projects for a range of clients, but based on the main portfolio of work in the region it is expected that this will be principally for Transport Scotland, Highways England, Local Authorities, SEPA and the Environment Agency.

Key responsibilities:

  • Desk-based environmental appraisal
  • For the right candidate, field-based environmental appraisal (in ecology, landscape, water management or geomorphology)
  • Co-ordination, conduct and delivery of environmental assessment including strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and project environmental impact assessment (EIA)
  • Identification and design of environmental mitigation and improvement as part of integrated and sustainable engineering designs
  • Leading or supporting consultation and consenting 
  • Report preparation (appraisal, TS, HE, EA, EIA, SEA, HRA, processed)
  • Supporting the preparation of proposals for consultancy services
  • For the right candidate, undertaking the role of Environmental Clerk of Works at construction sites
  • Working safely at all times 

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Degree in an environmental discipline
  • Professional experience in environmental assessment
  • Evidence of previous experience in leading or co-ordinating SEA or EIA  
  • Evidence of CPD in environmental assessment (EIA and/or SEA) with, or working towards, membership of a relevant environmental institution or chartership (IEMA or equivalent)
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised and to network with a ‘virtual’ team of environmental specialists across other CH2M offices 
  • Able to travel (driving licence essential) and undertake field work safely

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Professional experience in one or more of: spatial planning, urban/landscape design, ecology, water environment management, geomporphology
  • Experience in public and statutory consultation and approvals
  • Previous site experience (which may be part-time) as an Environmental Clerk of Works or Ecological Clerk of Works on construction sites
  • Experience in environmental aspects of flood and coastal risk management and/or river/ catchment management
