As the EHS Safety Specialist you will be expected to spend a significant portion of each day observing work practices, soliciting input regarding safety improvements, resolving safety concerns, advising personnel regarding safe work practices and process safety requirements and work closely with the leadership team to establish programs and process for injury prevention and regulatory compliance. You will also be responsible for the establishment of an annual Group Safety plan and tracking its execution throughout the year.

Other role responsibilities:

  • Identify hazards in the workplace
  • Collect samples of water, wastewater, wastes, production
  • Inspect and evaluate work place environment, equipment and practices for compliance with corporate and government health & safety standards and regulations.
  • Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify their causes and to determine how they might be prevented.
  • Conduct training on a variety of topics such as emergency preparedness.
  • Manage fire protection system including contractors for required maintenance and inspections.
  • Conduct inspections/audits for various EHS Programs and follow up with corrective actions.
  • Work with operators/supervisors/managers to ensure a safe work environment.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to use technology: Specialists often work with testing equipment and a variety of software packages both for the company and for government agencies. MS Office skills necessary.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate safety instructions and concerns to employee and managers.  They need to be able to work with technicians to collect and test samples of possible hazards such as dusts or vapors in the workplace.
  • Detail Oriented: Specialist need to understand and follow safety standard and complex government regulations.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Specialists must be able to solve problems in order to design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
