Environmental Defence and Xerox Canada Ltd are jointly searching for a recent university or college graduate in sustainability and/or environmental studies to explore environmental sustainability issues, with a special emphasis on corporate responsibility practices in Canada and associated communication approaches. The 12 month internship period will be comprised of 6 months at Environmental Defence and Xerox Canada respectively.At Xerox Canada
(January 9 – June 30):
Review and update Xerox Canada’s key field facing sustainability publications deployed to direct and agent sales, and partners
Update and deploy Sustainability at Xerox presentations used for internal training purposes
Project lead for Earth month activities. Responsibilities include representing Xerox Canada on the Global Xerox Earth Month Team and implementing programs where Xerox Canada can get involved.
Assist in regulatory reporting and advising on upcoming changes
Act as liaison between Xerox Canada and the Electronic Product Stewardship of Canada providing updates where applicable and monitoring the legislative landscape in reference to provincial recycling guidelines
Provide assistance in Request for Information inquiries (either internally or externally)
Review external website and update any changes necessary
Support the broader team with data analysis and reporting
Other duties as assignedAt Environmental Defence
(July 4 – December 15):
Assist with the promotion of our Young Reporters, Greenbelt and Blue Flag programs and fundraising events including marketing research, website writing and blogging, blogger outreach, and using social media tools to build awareness
Work with communications team to develop an action plan and execute at least three tactics to build supporter numbers and increase engagement on Environmental Defence’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and explore other social media platforms/tools to help communicate with our supporters
Assist in coordination of our Young Reporters program, including outreach and providing support to teachers and students, and creating and updating educational materials
Media relations support including media list development and maintenance and conducting outreach
Participation in Communications and Campaign team meetings and other duties as assignedDesired Skills & Experience

Recent completion of a university or college program focusing on sustainability and/or environmental studies
Excellent communications skills: written, verbal and interpersonal
Enjoys public speaking and has solid presentation skills
Strong knowledge of social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
Proficient with Microsoft Office with experience using MS Excel
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with limited supervision
Ability to self-direct and take initiative to complete tasks and projects
Able to work well with others
Detail orientated; well organized and exemplary time management skills
Highly motivated and eager to learn
