Job Description

The role is as a frontline trader.  Working closely with colleagues, you will be expected to build a profitable trade book.  In the pursuit of such, driving the getting of desired short and medium term exposures, especially optionality.  Given the pace of market developments, you will need to be agile, adaptive and possessed of a strong work ethic. You will primarily be responsible for meeting targets for Gross Margin, with an emphasis on material and sustainable contributions. You will be working in a rapidly evolving business area, often in challenging regulatory and legal environments.  

The role will require you to:
Analyse fundamental, technical and sentiment attributes of the North American Carbon market(s) to develop and implement profitable trading strategies
Drive getting of desired exposures, especially optionality.  Make markets in swaps and timespreads.  Be able to manage exposures in an illiquid market.
Execute trades within mandated authorities.
Manage exposures arising from Shell’s own compliance position under the North American ETSs.
Build strong relationships with counterparts, such that they become sources of liquidity, margin and structure.  These counterparts will include trading houses, banks and major compliance entities with active trading teams.
Collaborate with Shell’s originators, to develop new structured products in response to customer demand and changing market conditions.  The target customer base will include compliance entities from the I&C, Utilities and Municipalities sectors.
Maintain close links with other market participants such as brokers, exchanges and market regulators.
Ensure that all desk activities comply with financial and market regulations

The position calls for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure and with limited direct supervision.

Requirements
Candidates must be:
A U.S. Citizen, or hold a valid work visa that does not require sponsorship in order to legally work full-time in the United States.
Minimum of five (5+) year track record within trading and/or origination in either; carbon markets, energy markets or financial markets.
Deep understanding of developing/managing trading exposures and how to generate value from optionality within customer/counterpart agreements.
Demonstrated attention to detail, particularly with respect to regulatory requirements.
Experience in developing innovative structured deals and successfully taking them through an internal approval process.
Strong analytical/quantitative skills, particularly with regard to options valuation and supply-demand modelling.
Background in accounting, corporate finance, investment banking or other finance related fields would be preferred.
Excellent communication, relationship building and presentation skills.
Fluency in Spanish and/or French is preferred.
 
Preferred candidates will also have;
Experience of building a book in the North American Carbon ETSs or other North American energy products.
Basic knowledge in the field of international climate policy and emissions trading scheme regulations.
