Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our team in either our Fairbanks or Anchorage, Alaska office. Your Duties
Assist in the development and design of environmental documents, technical reports, permit applications, agency contact and coordination and field work for wetlands, flora and fauna and habitat evaluations; within budget and on time, in accordance with current NEPA regulations, environmental science or natural resources knowledge and practices. The purpose of this position is to provide professional, technical day-to-day support, guidance, coordination, and input to other project team members.
Performs work involving the application of all conventional aspects of environmental documentation to the functional area of the assignment. Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
This position involves project-based direction over other environmental team members, CAD and/or GIS technicians, and administrative staff, to complete more complex environmental projects and/or function as a technical specialist, formulating, developing, and applying advanced environmental concepts in a specific resource area of expertise.
Conducts technical planning field studies necessary to support NEPA documentation for specific projects in area(s) of technical expertise and formulating results in a concise, well-written document. Examples of field studies include wetland delineations, noise and air modeling, wildlife/habitat assessments, endangered species evaluations and surveys, and vegetation surveys. Will read, interpret, and compose Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements and other technical reports as needed. Will organize and participate in public and agency presentations, meetings, and consultations.
Gather and prepare material and data for proposals. Participate in marketing and business development activities. Attend meetings both inside and outside the firm pertaining to existing and potential projects. May coordinate and consult with federal, state and local regulatory agencies on scope and impact of project.

Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or another Natural Science degree from an accredited college or university; and a minimum of 5 years of progressive and relevant environmental experience in Alaska required.
Knowledge and experience using spreadsheet (Excel) and word processing programs (MS Word).
GIS experience preferred.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills are critical in this position.
Experience in project-based team management preferred.
Interest and/or experience in business development/marketing preferred.
