Job Description

WISHROCK is planning to expand its sustainability staff by hiring a Sustainability Associate for either the Washington, DC office or in the Portland, Maine office. The Sustainability Associate will assist in the execution of WISHROCK’s sustainability initiatives, which focus on four primary goals for the company’s multifamily affordable housing portfolio.

Location: Portland, Maine or Washington, DC office

Primary Functions: 
Assists in the execution of WISHROCK’s sustainability initiatives, which focus on four primary goals for the company’s multifamily affordable housing portfolio: 1) generating economic savings by maximizing energy and water efficiency and levering new green investment opportunities, 2) lowering carbon emissions and resource consumption, 3) creating healthier living conditions, and 4) raising awareness of sustainability issues among residents and staff.

Responsibilities Include:
 
Collection and analysis of relevant sustainability (energy, water, waste, utility cost) data and metrics. Maintain energy and water benchmarking tools and lead coordination and data tracking with WegoWise and Portfolio Manager. Development of additional reporting systems, as needed.
 
Cross-functional collaboration with all of the company’s business areas related to sustainability activities and milestones, with an emphasis on the Originations, Development and Asset Management Departments.
Perform research, review and analysis of financial incentives for multifamily housing projects in the company’s portfolio tailored to energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, and green building/retrofits.
Preparation of necessary administrative, operational, and statistical reports and presentation materials for use by internal and external audiences.
Relationship development and participation on teams in support of sustainability goals and objectives.
Assist in monitoring green affordable housing finance and policy trends, green development and healthy housing approaches, programs and issues.
Serve as staff lead on the Multifamily Better Buildings Challenge.
Personable communication with various stakeholders (colleagues, sustainability consultants, peer multifamily housing organizations, financiers, renewable energy companies, building science experts, utilities, and governmental agencies).

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree, 2-4 years of commensurate position-related experience.
 
Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills (remains open to ideas and feedback from colleagues, exhibits willingness to try new approaches).
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, with great attention to detail.
Demonstrates a high level of initiative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, and utility data tracking tools.
Demonstrates the ability to balance competing demands, while managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in all aspects of the position.
Consistently exhibit the company’s values in interactions with peers and external stakeholders.
Willing to travel as required.
Presentation and fundraising skills are desirable.
