Job Description

Overview:

Woodard & Curran is recruiting a senior scientist and/or project manager with over 15 years of environmental consulting experience to work in our Atlanta, Georgia office in the Environment & Remediation Strategic Business Unit (SBU). This candidate must possess strong leadership and project management skills, and will be able to mentor and develop less experienced project managers. This individual will serve as the main point of contact with multiple clients and will be responsible for monitoring all phases of project progress and technical delivery to ensure client satisfaction. Thorough knowledge of environmental regulations relevant to infrastructure and land development projects is critical. This candidate must be able to interface well with multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will work with other senior SBU members to formulate business development strategies, prepare winning proposals, network with existing and potential clients, along with effectively managing projects. This position would report directly to SBU leadership and would interact with other senior technical staff around the company. The majority of work would be related to linear utility, oil and gas, and other environmental engineering projects. The right candidate will be genuinely interested in natural resources and environmental policy, and will be ready to lead a team of junior and mid-level scientists.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Work directly with clients to understand business needs, environmental risks, and deliver solutions
  • Develop small to large environmental assessment and wetland permitting projects from beginning to end
  • Help lead Woodard & Curran strategic direction in southeastern U.S. market for environmental services
  • Serve as an internal expert for significant environmental area/discipline (i.e. habitat restoration, FERC, phytoremediation, threatened/endangered species collection permit holder, etc.)
  • Provide senior technical review and QA/QC to ensure high-quality client deliverables
  • Manage projects and clients in the planning, execution, and delivery of environmental field studies and permitting for infrastructure and land development projects
  • Supervise a diverse team of environmental professionals
  • Support the work of others and mentor junior and mid-level technical staff

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience in linear utility and oil and gas projects (preferred)
  • BS degree in natural resources, ecology, biology, wildlife, fisheries, or related discipline
  • Thorough understanding of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act
  • Working knowledge of NEPA and related laws and policies
  • Must have project management experience on infrastructure or land development projects
  • Professional certification including but not limited to: PE, PG, PWS, CE, AICP, GISP, PLA, CPESC (preferred)
  • Client relationship and management skills with successful track record of project delivery
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving wetland permit drawings and maps
  • Experience developing environmental permit schedules and cost estimates
