Job Description

ERM is seeking a motivated Junior Environmental Scientist to join our office in Houston, TX.  The successful candidate will work on multi-disciplinary teams supporting our oil & gas, power, and chemical sector clients with environmental due diligence, impact assessment, and permitting of capital projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform biological field studies such as wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, and biological aquatic assessments.
  • Perform multi-media permitting and compliance associated with development projects with an emphasis on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and State Historical Commissions.
  • Perform field studies and reporting to support compliance with Clean Water Act Section 316(b) for power plants, refineries, chemical plants, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Assist on linear permitting projects; provide construction inspection activities for natural gas pipelines, power transmission lines, utility corridors, and petroleum pipelines.
  • Provide technical assistance on NEPA environmental assessment (EA) and environmental impact statement (EIS) projects and related activities in support of ERM clients’ domestic and international development projects (i.e., oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable/alternative energy projects). Conduct tasks related to environmental impact assessment, land use planning, facility siting and permitting, risk assessment, and water resources management.
  • Prepare EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, performing data and literature review, developing recommendations for clients, and conducting field work.
  • Assist with developing and executing corporate Impact Assessment & Planning systems and strategies.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers for the Contaminated Site Management practice on natural resources damages and ecological and human health risk assessment tasks.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in engineering, environmental science, biology, or related discipline.
  • Recent grad to 2 years of field experience conducting biological data collection and GPS data collection,
  • Experience assisting clients in obtaining multi-media permits and approvals for new or expanded facilities a plus.
  • High degree of technical competence and knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated attributes to become a strong consultant – team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter who takes initiative, versatile, and service-oriented mentality.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
