Currently, HGL has a position open for an Environmental Field Technician 4 at the St. Louis FUSRAP Sites in St. Louis, Missouri.


The successful candidate will be responsible for working with project manager, engineers, geologists, operations managers, radiological and safety specialists, shipping officers, and other technical staff to support sample collection, data management, and environmental compliance activities on a large Federal remediation project. Efforts will support the Regulatory Compliance Manager. 

Essential functions of the position include:
Generating and/or maintaining personnel training records, sample archive and chemical inventories, quality control reports and logbooks, and regulatory compliance files; assisting the Regulatory Compliance Manager in projecting future sampling and analysis efforts; preparing chain of custodies and collecting associated environmental samples; preserving and packaging samples for shipment; coordinating with field personnel to ensure sampling needs are met; assisting with preparation of stakeholder communications; performing water sampling duties and inspecting work sites as needed to meet water permit requirements; transporting samples; assisting DOT Certified Shippers; providing sample database support; and performing other Compliance duties as needed. Must be able to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently. Local travel in the St. Louis area and vicinity will be required. 

Required Skills

Required skills include: proficiency in MS Office Suite; excellent communication and organization; strong technical writing and documentation; and ability to research and resolve regulatory compliance issues. A working knowledge of managing environmental data is required. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, be physically capable of collecting environmental samples, and able to lift/carry up to 30 pounds of equipment on terrain that is typical of the St. Louis City/St. Louis County area.

Preferred Skills

Preferred skills include demonstrated proficiency managing and retrieving environmental data utilizing SQL-based systems (e.g. EQuIS).

Required Experience

A minimum of 4 years’ experience with environmental sample collection and data management, and a working knowledge of environmental permitting and regulations, investigations, designs, and remediation.

Preferred Experience

Experience supporting large-scale soil remediation projects. Experience with environmental permitting and regulations, environmental investigations, utility regulatory analysis, environmental designs and remediation, and current 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER. Experience with written scientific work products for environmental investigation, remediation, and construction projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Required Education

This position requires a High School Diploma plus a minimum of 2 years of additional training or education in the area of specialization.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in science- or engineering-related field of study plus 3 years of environmental experience; additional environmental experience may be considered in lieu of education.


A pre-hire drug test is required, and some positions may require a fit-for-duty baseline physical. There is no relocation offered for this position.
