Job Description

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking an Environmental Planner to join our Environmental Planning Team in California. Work will focus on preparation, organization and delivery of documentation compliant with both the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for a variety of project scopes and clients. The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of CEQA/NEPA consulting experience and be comfortable preparing technical analyses of CEQA- and NEPA-compliant documents (IS/MNDs, EIRs, EAs, EISs, etc.); preparing and adhering to scopes, schedules, and budgets under the supervision of a project manager; and communicating with team members. This position will work closely to support the environmental planning and permitting team Santa Barbara while collaborating on projects and with technical staff throughout California. 

Key Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will report to environmental planning and permitting leadership in Santa Barbara or San Diego while working closely with staff throughout California. Primary responsibilities will include preparing analyses of environmental issues in the context of NEPA and CEQA compliance, Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 and 401 compliance, regional planning documents, municipal codes, and local plans. The position will also include some assistance with proposal preparation. Opportunities for advancement are open for highly motivated and capable candidates. Skills / Qualifications

  • BS/BA or Master’s degree in environmental studies, planning, natural resources, or related field
  • 3-5 years increasingly responsible experience preparing CEQA/NEPA documents (IS/MNDs, EIRs, EISs); Applicable internships can count towards years of experience
  • Ability to work effectively and independently on CEQA/NEPA documents under Project Manager supervision
  • Strong technical writing, research, and analytical abilities as well as excellent oral communication skills and high attention to details
  • Solid understanding of CEQA and/or NEPA requirements and processes, including knowledge of latest regulations and how to apply them to a project
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Proficiency with Arc GIS and spatial analysis tools a plus
  • Interest in marketing, proposals, and business development
