The intern will work alongside a seasoned Engineering Department Environmental Engineering professional supporting Environmental solutions on a daily basis at Amtrak. Learning best practices through working with a mentor.The Engineering Environmental Intern will be analyzing data and creating accurate and timely reports; assist the team with monthly analyses & reporting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : • Scheduling environmental compliance training classes for Engineering employees • Entering training records into Amtrak’s SAP database • Environmental related vendor invoice processing • Maintain cost tracking spreadsheet for division environmental related expenditures • Maintain waste container tracking spreadsheet • Assisting with facility compliance through performing monthly inspections and follow-up, to addressing deficiencies with responsible departments and correcting minor deficiencies at the time of discovery • Performing consolidation and packaging of common waste streams such as universal waste, assorted petroleum’s, and paint related materials • Lifting up to 50 pounds and maneuvering 55-gallon drums containing liquids and/or solids • Perform various clean-up activities associated with environmental incidents and in support of Amtrak’s policies, programs, and procedures • Other duties as assigned WORK EXPERIENCE : • Some environmental compliance or related experience • Combination of Office and Field • Must pass Amtrak Environmental Control Awareness / Competency Training • Should possess an understanding of Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC), and Stormwater Pollution Prevention (SPPP) • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills OTHER REQUIREMENTS : • Pursing a college degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS : • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Remember to say you found this opportunity at EnvironmentalCareer.com .
