The Cadmus Group seeks an experienced, part-time, mid-level professional to provide key technical contributions in support of our growing International Environment and Development Practice.   The practice supports the environmentally and socially sound design and implementation of international development projects in Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Middle East, and Asia/Pacific funded by USAID and other donors. Assignments may involve international travel to developing areas. Average level of engagement under this position will be less than 24 hrs/week on average over a year; assignments will be offered on an on-call basis, subject to mutual agreement.   Responsibilities : Make key contributions to technical assignments as directed by the client and project Team Leader(s). These assignments may include but are not limited to: - Participation as a lead or supporting technical expert on environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) teams - Reviewing or preparing USAID environmental compliance and management documents (22 CFR 216 documentation; climate risk screening documentation related to implementation of Executive Order 13677) - Review of multilateral development bank (MDB) ESIAs - Research- and consultation-based development of environmental compliance/environmentally sound design and management guidance for international development activities - Preparation of client deliverables such as assessment reports, environmental and social mitigation plans, or integrated pest management plans; or - Developing materials for and conducting training sessions on environmental compliance/safeguards and sound environmental design and management of development activities - Field monitoring of environmental and/or social management and performance of development activities - Participation on tropical forestry and biodiversity assessments (e.g., USAID FAA 118/119), environmental threats and opportunities assessments, climate vulnerability assessments and other assessments that support environmentally, socially and climate-sound development programming. - Proposal development for USAID and other donor/funding organizations. For smaller assignments, the candidate may manage task/assignment teams consisting of Cadmus colleagues and/or subcontractors to achieve on-budget completion to a high technical standard. This includes management of sub-contracts, invoices, and other administrative tasks, as needed.   Qualifications : Master’s Degree in Environmental, Earth, or Climate Sciences; Natural Resources Management; Tropical Agriculture; Civil/Environmental Engineering; Public Health; Social Sciences with clear focus in international development; or a related discipline; Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience working in a business consulting, international development, or government services sector (3 years with a Ph.D.); At least 2 years’ field-based international development experience in a professional or volunteer capacity; Demonstrated experience and expertise in one or more of the following in developing and transitional countries: ESIA, particularly with regard to multilateral development bank standards; natural resource management; climate change vulnerability, resilience and adaptation assessment/planning; disaster preparedness and response processes, including rapid assessment of environmental impacts; behavioral/social sciences with specific application to international development; sustainable agriculture; clean energy; and/or pesticides/integrated pest management/agriculture. Multiple expertise areas strongly preferred; Superior English written and verbal communications skills; Demonstrated capability to work well with geographically dispersed, multi-cultural teams; Facility in Spanish, French, Portuguese or another foreign language (Preferred facility at or above Foreign Service Institute Level S3 & R3, or equivalent); and Ability and willingness to travel outside of the United States in developing areas for short-term technical assignments.   Preferred Previous experience working with USAID, e.g. as a consultant, implementing partner, fellow or staff member; Familiarity with USAID’s environmental procedures (22 CFR 216 and related ADS requirements) and with USAID climate change programming and risk screening. Familiarity with International Financial Institution environmental and social safeguards; Impact Assessment and/or Monitoring and Evaluation for large-scale projects; Technical skills or certifications in project monitoring and evaluation, GIS, sampling design and statistical analysis, and/or other specialist skills relevant to environmental and social management and monitoring of international development activities; Experience with and demonstrated success in writing and developing proposals for USAID and/or other international development funding organizations; and Experience managing international development projects or activities.   Additional Information The location of the position is flexible, with alternate/remote working locations possible.
