POSITION:             Utility Vegetation Management Technician   STARTING DATE:   Immediately.  Resumes accepted until suitable candidate is selected.   The Davey Resource Group (DRG), a division of The Davey Tree Expert Company, is currently hiring arborists, foresters, horticulturalists, natural resource specialists, plant and outdoor enthusiasts to join our workforce.   POSITION LOCATIONS:  Ardmore, OK   DUTIES:   Work with major gas/electric utility system and address its forestry needs Inspect and assess the rights of way for vegetation requiring pruning or removal to avoid conflicts with overhead conductors Identify tree and brush control work and enter data into hand-held computer Notify landowners of impending compliance or reliability work Discuss and negotiate incompatible vegetation removals Assess terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions Coordinate with project managers, planners, and vegetation crews   DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Four year degree in horticulture, forestry, urban forestry, environmental science, natural resources or related discipline preferred Organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail Ability to work and hike in rugged terrain and inclement weather Clean DMV driving record and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle Utility right of way vegetation management experience preferred Ability to identify local tree species and knowledge of growth rates preferred International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborist preferred   ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:   Pay rates based on qualifications and experience. Work with major gas/electric utility forestry management needs. Inspecting and assessing vegetation in the right-of-ways for compliance standards and construction work plans. Identify tree and brush control work and protection zone recommendations. Document work using hand-held computer; Assess terrain, Habitat, and Environmental conditions, Creation of IVM projects. Coordinating with Project Managers, Planners, and Vegetation Crews.   What you’ll need: Ability to work and hike in rugged terrain and inclement weather; ability to read and follow maps; ability to work independently. Leadership experience and a desire for career growth will be given a priority. Demonstrated expertise in problem solving and technical innovation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Availability and desire to travel throughout Northeast Ohio. Clean DMV driving record and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle. Two or Four year degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture or related discipline; ISA Utility Specialist; Qualified Applicators License (QAL), Pest Control Advisor (PCA), Registered Professional Forester (RPF), Utility Right-of-Way Vegetation experience are preferred. Ability to identify local tree species & growth rates.
